A gloom hung over New Haven today. The world was illuminated, but cast through a tinted lens. The recent rain nourished roots, and made the earth aromatic. Urgency drove this visit, as one student was running from class to lab, but took the time to capture this photo. A moment in time. 2:29pm. A time not many remember, for it was just a fleeting moment. But in this moment, this student snapped a photo of Tina, showing the papery bark over its white bark underneath. Its documented shedding of flimsy out covering, revealing a new, beautiful core. Through the tinted lens of the clouds, the world gets to see, in high contrast, what (or who) Tina is fully. As a young river birch, her bark curls and tears easily. But as she grows, Tina will develop harder plates over her core, less prone to curling and peeling. But for now, revel in the renewal on Tina's new style.
